I have worked alongside people with mental ill health since 1989, initially in my role as a psychiatric nurse and then as a counsellor from 2013. My experience has included substance misuse, nursing within a prison, hospice nursing and supporting people coping with multi deprivation. The aim of my work in all of these areas was to ensure a non judgmental, high level of care to people in disadvantaged, distressing situations. An additional area of knowledge that I have gained was when I worked with The University of Edinburgh mentoring students experiencing mental ill health.
My counselling experience has included working with children in primary schools, with agencies in the voluntary sector for short and longer term counselling, for the NHS in a Psychological Therapies Team and 13 years in private practise seeing clients from all walks of life with varying issues and distresses.
Presently I work solely as a Counsellor and Supervisor in Private Practise in the North of Edinburgh. My present counselling work also includes seeing clients via Employment Assistance Programmes and for Motor Neurone Disease Scotland.
