Supervision in the North of Edinburgh
In August 2013 I completed a Person Centred Counselling Supervision Certificate at The University of Aberdeen.
Thus the supervision approach I offer is Person Centred, and I have worked alongside students and counsellors who are training/have trained in a variety of approaches as well as CBT ,Counselling Psychology and Counselling Project Management. This is my hope, to continue to be in supervision relationships with people practising from different approaches, backgrounds and trainings, as well as Person Centred Counsellors, with the mutual desire to experience supervision from a Person Centred perspective. Feedback and my experience of the work explored together confirms this to be valuable, effective and continually mutually challenging.
As a supervisor I am committed to creating a relationship where learning and discovery is a mutual, equal, on-going process. I am open to sharing my knowledge and experiences and invite you to do the same, whatever stage you are in your counselling career. I trust each counsellor to be responsible for their own practice, and see my role as supporting each person to practice to the best of their ability in a , professional and ethically sound way.
I recognise that all aspects of our lives impact on our ability to counsel and, for this reason, invite supervisees to bring all of themselves. I believe this will enable you to practice to the best of your ability.
My hourly rate is £50, or £70 for an hour and a half. I am open to discussion around these rates for counsellors in training.
I am also able to offer supervision via Skype once we have met in person.
“Susan has the ability to listen to and absorb every detail of work described with clients, consequently it can feel as if she has a personal knowledge of them. Exquisitely empathic, Susan judges when to speak with a precision that allows the flow necessary in constructive supervision”.
Elaine, Person Centred Counsellor, Dec 2013
"I find Susan very supportive and knowledgeable in the mental health field. Even though I have been exercising an approach different from Susan's, I've found our sessions constructive and very helpful for my current placements, work and training.
Ana Georgieva, Trainee Counselling Psychologist, Dec 2013
"My experience of Susan as a supervisor has been of a gentle, thoughtful and supportive presence. Susan encourages me to explore my competencies, pursue the work and training opportunities I am interested in, and to view my practice and client work from different angles. Working with Susan as my supervisor has allowed me to reflect on my client work in a safe, supportive environment with an experienced and thoughtful fellow therapist."
Karin Anderson MBACP April 2014
"Susan offers a safe space where I can bring all of myself as well as my work with clients. I have no fear of bringing my mistakes or clumsiness which is a welcoming, strengthening experience. I usually leave our supervision sessions feeling more capable, knowledgeable and completely supported."
Person Centred Counsellor 2016
"Susan is consistantly loving and supportive in our supervision relationship. I have no fear and can bring any aspect of my work or the personal events in my life that are affecting my ability to counsel. We explore these together which always leaves me feeling equal to her."
